Volunteering & Service Hours

"Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something."

Dragon Families, Students, Teachers and Staff,

A long standing part of KAPS' tradition is being involved in service and community events in our surrounding areas. These events enrich our KAPS community and allow us to share our time and to let our Dragon spirit shine for all to see!

Students can use any of these events as part of their service hours!

(All students need 10 service hours a semester)

KAPS Blue Cord

Community Service Award Program

Blue graduation tassels signify a commitment to community service.

What is the KAPS Blue Cord?

  • To give special recognition to students who demonstrate a willingness and a passion to volunteer their time and labor in serving others.
  • To encourage students to develop the habit of performing community service and responsibility by completing documentation forms.
  • To create communication links between the students of KAPs and the volunteer service needs of the community.

How many service hours does my kid need? ALL KAPS Students must complete 10 hours of community service per semester. Example: If your student starts in 8th grade, they'll need 100 total hours by graduation! Students who reach 100+ hours will earn our prestigious Blue Cord to wear at graduation and keep as a lasting achievement! There's no penalty for unfinished hours per semester/year - as long as the total required hours are met by graduation. Start tracking hours early to ensure your student meets their goal!
Service hours must benefit the community or a nonprofit organization. Examples include: Helping at nursing homes, libraries, or nonprofit events; Participating in organized service clubs (Lions Club, Scouts, etc.); Assisting at church/community events (if non-religious tasks, such as organizing donations. Mission trips do not qualify); School planned service projects (campus cleanups, Day of Service, etc.); Volunteering at local charities (food banks, animal shelters, etc.)
