What is a public charter school?
A public charter school is a tuition-free school that takes a personal approach to learning as opposed to traditional public schools. Charter schools put the needs of students first to foster a comfortable learning experience, this helps ensure students get the necessary attention to really learn.

How can I enroll in KAPS?
There are multiple ways to begin the enrollment process! You as a guardian can either enroll your child in person, or you can fill out our online enrollment form located on the front page.

How big is KAPS?
KAPS typically has around one hundred students enrolled at a time. We maintain a ratio of about one teacher for every ten students.

KAPS currently offers grades 8-12. 8th graders may be placed on a waitlist.

What are the school hours?
KAPS is open from 8 AM to 4 PM and clubs run at the latest until 6 PM. Busses leave at 4 PM and 6 PM for afterschool.

What should I know about school lunch?
Announcing the Lunch Punch Card
To simplify cafeteria payments and eliminate the need for daily cash transactions, we are offering the Lunch Punch Card for the 2026–2027 academic year.
- Standard Lunch Punch Card: $50
(Covers 10 meals at $5.00 per lunch)
- Reduced Lunch Punch Card: $20
(Covers 10 meals at $2.00 per lunch; available upon application approval)
Cards remain safely on file at the school so your student never has to worry about lost money or forgotten cards at home.
Free & Reduced-Price Lunch Program
Katherine Anne Porter School is committed to ensuring every student has access to nutritious, high-quality meals.
- Qualifying for Reduced Rates: Upon approval of your application, your family will automatically qualify for the $20 Reduced Punch Card status depending on household eligibility guidelines.
- Confidentiality: All applications are processed with strict confidentiality and do not affect your student’s experience in the lunch line.
How to Purchase & Apply
- Submit Application: Pick up the Reduced Lunch application from our main office.
- Purchase Punch Cards: Punch cards may be purchased directly at the main office during regular school operating hours.

What should I do if my child is being bullied?
Here at KAPS we have a 0 tolerence policy for bullying, but in the rare event that your child is being bullied please submit a report to IWatch Texas and consider contacting us regarding the issue. All reports made will always remain anonymous.
What should I know about community service?
Here at KAPS we require that our students have a specific number of community service hours to gradute. For every semester you attend at KAPS, you must have 10 hours of community service. Community service can either be performed by volunteering with the school after class, or with outside organizations.
